The Discovery Park Residential Village will define the western gateway into the City of West Lafayette and Purdue University Campus embracing the Discovery Park District master plan guidelines and will be supported by retail markets, restaurants, multifamily residential, learning centers and commercial lodging. It includes the recent construction of the Convergence Center, Aspire, and an improved streetscape along State Street. Pedestrian activity is encouraged and prominent within this area therefore safety is vital through traffic calming, defined crosswalks and separation of users. These elements are being coordinated by the Shrewsberry Engineering team with the Master Plan design team.
Vehicles are accommodated and safely integrated with the pedestrians and multimodal modes and traffic will be calmed through creatively incorporating streetscape elements as methods of separation. To build on sustainability, bioretention cells will contribute to the aesthetic and establish the new vocabulary of this district. The engineering will encompass the drainage design to translate the functionality of the system with the aesthetic intent of the overall streetscape design and is complemented with the expertise of professionals in the field of green infrastructure as a resource.
