Shrewsberry assisted with preparation of the Whiter River Vision plan. This $1.5 million strategic plan, encompassing a 58-mile stretch of the White River in Marion and Hamilton Counties in Indiana provides a long-term (30-year implementation schedule) for a sustainably managed White River corridor. Aspects of sustainability emphasize:
- Water Quality
- Wildlife Habitat Enhancement
- Water Access Improvements
- Connectivity (Along & Across the River)
- Tourism
- Economic Development Potential
Shrewsberry landscape architecture professionals provided assistance to the planning team: identifying major utility facilities and potential required federal, state and local permits as part of initial planning tasks for the 1-mile wide study area. Additionally, Shrewsberry assisted with various aspects of plan implementation including development of implementation budgets and plan priorities.
Implementation budgets were prepared for various projects in seven focus areas along the White River in the study area. Budgets were prepared for physical improvements, land acquisition and potential private economic development. Contingencies were added for physical improvements for ‘soft costs’ such as design, permitting and environmental remediation. Detailed implementation budgets for focus area projects included high, low and medium assembly unit prices. Assembly costs will assist with development of project budgets along the White River Corridor outside the project areas.
Estimated cost of the fully implemented White River Vision Plan range in cost from approximately $750 million to $1.2 billion.
